Šis un tas
Meow-sic to our ears

Reading the minutes of meetings may not be most people’s idea of fun, but here’s evidence that these records sometimes can bring a smile.
We hold in our hands the May issue of Svētrīta Zvani, the monthly newsletter of the Latvian Ev.-Lutheran Church of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The report on the March 21 council meeting includes the following item concerning a certain four-legged resident of the church:
“Radušies daudz iebildumu par to, ka kaķis dievkalpojuma laikā uzturas baznīcas telpās. Nolemj iegādāties krātiņu, kur kaķi ievietot dievkalpojuma laikā. Par to atbildīgi būs pērmindeŗi, koristiem, savukārt, nav iebildumu, ka kaķis noklausās kora mēģinājumu.”
Translation: “Many objections have been raised about the cat’s presence in the church during services. It is decided to acquire a cage in which to put the cat during services. The ushers will be responsible for this. Choir members, however, don’t object to the cat listening to choir rehearsals.”

Being a cat lover, I am happy to comment on this article. Good for the choir members, who appreciate feline company! Many cats, mine included, greatly enjoy music; in turn, I'm sure that choir rehearsals are more fun with a cat!

Reminds me of a cat that lived in the Daugavas Vanagu house in Bradford, UK - he had the run of the house and would wander onto the stage in the middle of play performances and the actors would ad-lib around him :-)
